I was surprised to read
a letter in a recent edition of the Bristol Herald Courier
regarding Congressman Rick Boucher’s
representation of our region’s citizens. I don’t
concur with the negative comments made by the writer.
On Halloween 2007, an arsonist destroyed the High Knob
tower in Wise County, which had been a beloved community
landmark for many decades. In the weeks following the tragedy,
Congressman Rick Boucher set up a large task force of residents
from Wise and Scott counties and the city of Norton, to
establish an ongoing effort to rebuild the High Knob tower.
Presently we are working closely with Congressman Boucher
and the U.S. Forest Service and citizens throughout the
region. Our fund raising campaign has been tremendously
successful. Thousands of dollars in private donations have
been received and thanks to Congressman Boucher’s
continued leadership, we are getting close to realizing
our goal of rebuilding this beloved landmark.
Congressman Boucher has a history of representing and
supporting our area in times of need. It was so like him
to step up to assist in this worthwhile tourism project.
He has represented this area with heartfelt dedication
and the experience to make a difference for all of the
people of Wise County.
